Understanding Event Schema Markup

What is Event Schema Markup?

Event schema markup is structured data in JSON-LD format that tells search engines about events on your website — including the name, date, location, ticket price, and organizer. When Google finds valid Event schema markup on a page, it can display the event in the Google Events carousel and as rich results in search, showing the event date, venue, and ticket availability directly in the search results page. Our event schema generator follows the schema.org/Event specification and Google's structured data guidelines, producing valid JSON-LD that you can paste directly into your page's HTML.

How Our Event Schema Generator Works

  1. 1. Fill in Your Event Details: Enter the event name, description, start and end dates, URL, and image. Select the event status (Scheduled, Postponed, Cancelled, etc.) and attendance mode (In-Person, Online, or Mixed).
  2. 2. Add Location, Organizer, and Offer: Enter the venue address for in-person events or the virtual URL for online events. Add organizer details, ticket pricing and availability, and optionally a performer name.
  3. 3. Generate, Copy, and Deploy: Click Generate Schema to produce the JSON-LD markup. Copy it as a complete <script> tag and paste it into the <head> or <body> of your event page. Test with Google's Rich Results Test.

Key Event Schema Properties

  • eventStatus: Indicates whether the event is scheduled, postponed, cancelled, moved online, or rescheduled. Google uses this to display event status badges in search results. Always update this if your event status changes.
  • eventAttendanceMode: Specifies whether the event is in-person (OfflineEventAttendanceMode), online only (OnlineEventAttendanceMode), or both (MixedEventAttendanceMode). This determines which location properties are required.
  • offers: Contains ticket pricing and availability information. The price, priceCurrency, and availability properties are required for Google to display ticket information in event rich results. Use "0" for free events.
  • location: For in-person events, use a Place object with a PostalAddress. For online events, use a VirtualLocation with the event URL. For hybrid events, both can be included as an array.

Important Notes

Event schema markup is a recommendationto search engines — Google may or may not display rich results depending on its quality guidelines and the page's overall authority. Always test your generated schema with the Google Rich Results Test before deploying. Keep the schema up to date — if an event is cancelled or postponed, update the eventStatus property immediately to avoid misleading search results.
